Peggy Guggenheim Collection

Among the many museums and attractions of Venice, the Peggy Guggenheim Collection is one of our favorite places. It is a special place, where you can perceive an atmosphere different from the rest of Venice. Perhaps because Venice is a city full of history, while the Guggenheim Collection has a profoundly modern soul.

Just like Corte di Gabriela, which blends the precious story of a historic building to the powerful contemporary design of its furnishing.

For the Guggenheim family art was more than a passion, it was a lifestyle: think about it… Peggy even loved wearing eccentric jewelry created by Calder, one of the greatest contemporary artists. Her love for patronage and collecting starts very early, in New York, and continues throughout her whole life.

In 1947 Peggy exposes some of his artworks at the Venice Biennale and she falls in love with the city. She buys Palazzo Venier dei Leoni and transfers her entire collection here, bringing to Europe for the first time the innovative works of Pollock, in addition to the wonderful pieces created by Picasso, Brancusi, Magritte, Fontana, Vedova, Burri, Jasper Johns, Rothko, Cy Twombly and many others.

Peggy loved Venice and its collection so much that she asked to be buried here after his death to. So it was, because in 1979 she was buried right in the private garden, next to her many dogs.
